“Fruitful and Increasing”
Sunday Morning Service 01/10/2021-Senior Pastor Terry Fischer
“that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:10
Today’s sermon focused on the importance of truly knowing God in a deep, personal way and letting that knowledge of God guide every aspect of the Christian life and service. The preacher emphasized that knowing God more intimately should be the driving desire for believers, as this will cause them to become more fruitful and effective in their “good works” for God’s kingdom.
The sermon covered several key points related to this theme:
- Good works must flow from God’s Spirit, have an eternal purpose, and bring glory to God – not just be motivated by human effort or desire.
- As believers seek to know God more deeply, He will reveal Himself to them in greater ways. This pursuit of knowing God should be an unending “trap” that believers gladly remain in.
- Knowing God means knowing the three Persons of the Trinity – the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. The unique relationship with each Person was expounded on.
- Pleasing God should be the aim of believers’ lives, which is possible through obedience and increasing in knowledge of Him.
- Examples from Scripture of God’s character and aspects of His nature were given to inspire deeper knowledge of who God is.
The overarching call in today’s sermon was for believers to be consumed with a passion to truly know the Lord in intimacy, let that knowledge shape their service, and bear much lasting fruit for His Kingdom as a result.
