Overcome in Advance
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. – John 16:33
“…in me ye might have peace”. We too often seek peace and tranquility based on our circumstances, or on what we have. But Jesus made it clear that the temporal things of this life are not true sources of peace (see John 14:27).
When circumstances change, when reserves run out (2 Timothy 4:16-18), where will we find that inner tranquility to get us through? Is our sense of well-being built on the Rock, the unchanging Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 13:8)?
Jesus had such faith in His Heavenly Father, that He could say “I have overcome” even before the last crisis of His life began. He had victory even before the battle was over.
Before the crisis comes, before the money runs out, before we are cornered by trouble, let us practice placing our trust in Christ, Who will not change with the shifting sands of this world.
