The 2:13 Devotional

Where does the Joy Come From?
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Ro 5:1-2
When our rejoicing, our source of fulfillment, is in something earthly, we are bound to be disappointed. That disappointment may be mild, as in when our favorite team loses. Or it may be devastating, as when a parent abandons a young child.
God’s way of keeping us joyful through any earthly letdown is to “rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” In the New Testament context, “hope” is certainty. We have the “Blessed Hope” in the return of Christ (Tit 2:13; 1Th 4:13-18). The coming day when God is glorified for all to see cannot be stopped, or even postponed. Do we rejoice in this?
No matter what temporal thing has failed to fulfill, we rejoice in that day which is coming when this life will be but a memory, and Christ will be all in all.
